Final Paper Instructions
Due: May 10, 2024

Required Format: --Your final paper is to be 15-17 pages in length.

--The text of the paper, including the title, heading, and subheadings, are to be double-spaced, submitted on 8-1/2 x 11-inch paper, and typed in Times New Roman 12-point font.

Appropriate use of footnotes, is important as you weave together the area of law you are interested in exploring with the practice of mindfulness. Footnotes are to be in Times New Roman 12-point font, and follow The Bluebook system of citation. (Should you use a reading from the class that does not provide the necessary information, either ask me or reference it as a class handout, providing sufficient identifying information).

Paginate each page at the bottom-center of the page.
-- Submission: E-mail your paper to Madeline Collazo. Copy me at srogers@law.miami.edu. Importantly, Madeline will confirm receipt. It is your responsibility to follow up if you did not receive confirmation.

Due Date: --Final papers are to be submitted on or before 5:00 p.m. on May 10, 2024.
The final paper invites you to draw upon your experience with mindfulness practice over the course of the semester and integrate it, along with your understanding of mindfulness, into your professional (and personal) life.

Here are examples of several drafts from earlier semesters may use as a general guide:

Transaction Law: Recapturing the Spark
Mental Health: Anxiety and Depression
Professional Satisfaction
Digital Lawyering

I wish for writing the paper to be a meaningful experience for you, in terms of the process of reflection and expression, and for your paper to be one that you (along with others) may look as a helpful guide to understanding and practicing mindfulness.

I will provide you with feedback on your drafts (see below schedule), and together we can discuss and rework your papers as much as you'd like. There is a craft to writing, and part of our mandate is to develop and hone your skills in this regard. So too, it is not easy, in my experience, to reduce mindfulness to words, and that is another aspect of our work together, and of your charge in writing and refining your paper, and ultimately reducing it to its final form.

I look forward to reading your papers.
